Pizza delivery driver shot & killed in North County
NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV) - A man was charged for the shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in North County Tuesday night, police tell News 4.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Whisper Lake Drive, which is in Black Jack. Police say Wayea Hallowanger, 20, placed an order to have a pizza delivered to a vacant apartment.
60-year-old Hershel Perkins was on the way to complete a pizza delivery when he was shot more than once by the suspect. He called 911 to state that he had been shot and would not survive. Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
When police arrested Hallowanger, he admitted to placing the order and being present at the vacant apartment. He later changed his number for the cell phone from which the order was placed.
Hallowanger was issued a charged for 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.
