Charges filed after fatal shooting in Hyde Park
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - One person was killed and another is injured after a shooting in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Police responded to the 1500 block of Destrehan in north St. Louis for a shooting just before 8:30 p.m. on May 6. When they arrived, they found the suspect on the ground had been shot.
According to police, two people were unloading their car when the suspect attempted to rob them with a firearm. One of the victims, a 31-year-old man, displayed his own gun. Both the suspect and the man fired at each other.
The suspect, later identified as Alonzo Jones, 35, was later pronounced dead on scene. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.
Over a month after the incident, police announced Izel Nash had been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and three counts of armed criminal action. Investigators said Nash, 29, admitted to being involved in the robbery that led to the fatal shooting.
